Juneteenth: another big celebration for Marietta

Marietta Square came alive with vendors, BBQ, Politicians, and people.

More than 100 vendors, numerous musical groups, a ton of dancers and a great crowd helped make this year's Juneteenth Celebration another big success.

Political folk, dogs, children, the Farmers Market, food of all kinds, jewelry, candles, clothing, accessories, voter registration, church groups and then hundreds of happy people– put them together and what do you get? You get a very crowded Marietta square and a lot of festive folk.

Glover Park in Marietta was the epicenter for the day of celebration. I started at the left side of the park and went up and down the rows of vendors. Even early on, the crowds were large. Booths were back to back and they were squeezed in next to each other so it seemed as if where one ended the other had already begun.

Political parties were in full gear, the candidates were out in force, the food vendors were hard at work behindΒ sizzling hot boilers and grills and the folk, they just kept a'coming. Bouncing rides where kids could lose themselves and exhibit after exhibit of arts, crafts and clothing were to be found on every corner of the square.

The weather could not have been any better, granted it got hot out there covering all the booths that were set up, but it was a fun fun day. One thing I noticed was the number of dogs– big dogs, small dogs, long dogs and little puggy dogs, too.

The weiner dogs (Dachshunds) seemed to be out in forc,e but the little girl crunching down on that broiled corn took the prize for sure. Oh yes, there is a good photo of her for sure.

If you missed it, you'll have to wait for another year to become involved.Β

Ah, but if you can't wait a whole year, how about the July 4th celebration and parade that's up in about three weeks? There will be a giant parade, then the activities on the square, then the BBQ events around the county and then of course the fireworks displays at night.

Β

See you then.
