Lindley Middle School Rape Suspect in Custody

Meanwhile, the girl he is accused of sodomizing attempted suicide earlier this week and is in a mental health hospital.

The 15-year-old Austell boy wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl in the boys bathroom at Lindley Middle School surrendered to Cobb authorities.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the mother of Travion Malick Hubbard drove her son to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on June 11. Meanwhile, the mother of the girl he is accused of sodomizing told the paper that her daughter attempted suicide earlier this week and is in a mental health hospital.

Hubbard was arrested on charges that include two counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of aggravated sodomy, according to jail records. Though he is charged as an adult, he is being held at a local juvenile detention center.

"Since he is so young," Cobb County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nancy Bodiford told Patch, "he is loaned out to the YDC."

According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. May 1, Hubbard allegedly forced the girl "into the male bathroom at Lindley Middle School, did forcibly remove her pants and undergarments," and sodomized her.

Sgt. Mike Rolfe with the Cobb County School District Department of Public Safety told the MDJ that "his agency learned about the incident several hours after it happened and immediately reported it to Cobb police."

However, a warrant was not issued for Hubbard's arrest until May 31.

"The gap in the time frame is simple," Officer Mike Bowman, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department, told Patch on June 5. "When you are investigating an active case and have numerous interviews to conduct and schedules to accommodate, it takes time. The fact that the warrant was taken only 30 days after the report of the incident was made is not long."

Parents were not notified of the alleged rape.

"Schools do not typically send home letters or alerts about allegations between two students," Jay Dillon, the spokesman for the Cobb County School District, told Patch earlier this month.

Hubbard was allowed back on campus, the boy's mother told the MDJ. The girl's mother told the paper that no one notified her of that. Her daughter also returned to school, but was "harassed."
