Austell Gay Christian Group to Hold First Sunday Service

The group is open to all people in Cobb County and surrounding areas.

The gay Christian group started in Austell will hold its first Sunday service this week. The group is looking for musicians, ushers and readers. According to the Free to Be Me Worship Ministries Meetup page, the group also needs ordained ministers. "If you are ordained and have not served in your calling and God has been tugging at your heart to get back into the service of Her people, come and see if Free to BE might be the place for you," it states on the page. Rev. Nadine Rawls founded the group in March. She told South Cobb Patch in June that the group's purpose is to provide an “open and safe space for GLBT Christians and those have yet to discover a relationship with Jesus the Christ without fear of being ridiculed, judged and damned…

New Cobb Gay Christian Group Started in Austell

Just a little more than a month before President Barack Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage, a new Cobb County GLBT Christian organization held its first meeting in Austell.

Austell is the home of a new organization for gay Christians in Cobb County. Cobb County Free to Be Me Ministries was started by Nadine Rawls in late March, and the group held its first event, a meet and greet, on March 31 in Austell. Earlier this month, President Barack Obama announced his support of gay marriage, and has received enormous support and backlash for doing so. U.S. Rep. John Lewis released a statement supporting Obama and expressing his own happiness that “more Americans, including President Obama, empathize with the struggles of same sex couples and express willingness in state after state to give their unions the same legal rights as other married couples.” Even South Cobb Patch blogger, Pastor Robert Moore of Triumphant …
