Close to 4,000 people are set to gather in two counties to remember those who lost their battles to cancer, show support to those who survived it, and to raise money to fight the disease. Relay For Life of Cobb County will kick off at 7 p.m. at Jim Miller Park in Marietta. In the county next door, Relay for Life of Paulding County is being held at White Oak Park in Dallas, with the event’s opening ceremony set for 6:45 p.m. Related news: What is Relay For Life? The first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings area is kicking off this weekend. Find out how you can participate and help fight cancer.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Relay for Life Vinings-Smyrna Kickoff Party. The kickoff event will be held at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday at Hyatt Place Atlanta/Cobb Galleria. Learn how you and your family and friends can participate in the first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings community, and help support a good cause. The festivities will start 8:30 a.m Saturday at the Paulding County Senior Center, 54 Industrial Way North, Dallas. More than 200 teams gathered at Jim Miller Park for one of the biggest cancer fundraisers in the nation.
Thousands of people in more than 200 team gathered Friday at Jim Miller Park for the Relay for Life of Cobb County, the annual all-night celebration of life and the fight against cancer. The official count on the Relay website is $606,426 raised by 2,998 people in 208 teams, but the dollar total for the American Cancer Society could rise after the 12 hours of fun and fundraising from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. today. And you still can donate at the Relay site. Last year's Cobb Relay raised more than $636,000. Mom About Town columnist Katie Barrentine has chronicled her reasons to Relay:
