Come Out for Watch Night Services at South Cobb Churches

Many South Cobb churches will have Watch Night and other worship services on New Year's Eve.

Get out the noisemakers and blackeyed peas, the New Year is nearly upon us.  The first year of the second decade of the 21st century is coming to a close. Many choose to ring in the new year at church for what is now called Watch Night service. The term "watch night" refers to the freeing of black slaves in the United States and how on New Year's Eve 1862, African Americans  anticipated the new year in which President Abe Lincoln was scheduled to sign the Emancipation Proclamation.
