Memorial Day is not just about barbecue, music festivals or a day off from work. It's a day to take time out to remember those who fought and died so that we can live with the freedoms afforded to Americans. South Cobb Patch says thank you to all those who have come before us and all those who are serving now in the military and sacrifice for us all. We salute you!

Cobb police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The driver was not wearing a helmet.
UPDATE: Cobb police report that Robert Clark, 56, of Mableton died from injuries he suffered in an motorcycle accident near the Y-intersection of Dodgen Road and Allen Road in Mableton early Saturday morning. Police believe alcohol may have contributed to the accident. Clark was not wearing a helmet. The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26. Cobb police said Clark lost control of his Kawasaki ZX 1400 CBF while attempting to make a curve. He was thrown from the bike when it struck a culvert on the north side of roadway. A Cobb police officer performed CPR on Clark until he was transported to Wellstar South Cobb Hospital where he was pronounced dead. What does Memorial Day mean to you?
Memorial Day: It is a day to remember the soldiers of battles, great service and wars. The last 10 years have brought a clearer picture of what war is like and the price of freedom as family on family has received their lost loved one and laid them to rest. I come from a long line of soldiers in my family,including my Uncle Jack whom I wrote about recently. In the 1940's, he was drafted into World War II. Many years in my life I don't recall him ever speaking of the experiences. That was until the year he was struggling with cancer when I was in Florida in his last months.
