Obit: Hattie Mae Ruff, 89 of Mableton, Dies

"Miss Hattie" was known as the "Duchess of Mableton" to many in the South Cobb community.

Hattie Mae Rutledge Ruff, age 89 of Mableton, passed away on July 22. She was the 10th child of Walter H. Rutledge and Annie Noland Rutledge, who are deceased. She was a devoted mother and ‘Ma Ma’ to her son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. “Miss Hattie” was known as the “Duchess of Mableton” to many, especially in the political community. She served on the board of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Cobb County Heart Association, the board of the Cobb County Cancer Society and was appointed to the Board of the Department of Human Resources of Georgia by three different governors. She also was instrumental in the election of her son, Charles, to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. She is a member of New Hope …

Obits: Rod Cohen, age 57 of Mableton, Dies

Rod Cohen, age 57 of Mableton, passed away on Wednesday, July 18. He was born to Allen and Ann Cohen on Dec. 17, 1954 in Greenville, SC. He grew up with his three brothers, Guy, Scott and Bradley. He lost his sister, Jamie Ann, at a young age. After school, he met and married the love of his life, Betsy. They had two sons, Brandon and Chad. They were later blessed with a grandson, Davis, and Rod was looking forward to his first granddaughter. Rod worked as an automotive broker for O'Brien's Automotive for many years. He was a loving family man and found joy in playing with his grandson. He also enjoyed bass fishing and watching Nascar. Leon Moore of Mableton Dies at 86

Moore served in the Navy and was a longtime member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Austell.

Leon Moore, age 86 of Mableton, passed away on Monday, July 16 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Leon was born to William Wilson Moore and Cleo Bell Moon Moore on May 30, 1926 in Decatur, GA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was also a beloved member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Austell. Leon was a motivated individual and had been very successful in several businesses. He had served as head of the electrical department for Six Flags from 1965-1986. Leon was the owner and operator of South Cobb Electronics for 10 years and had started LDKN Service Consultants which he ran for over 20 years. She passed away on Monday at her Mableton home.

Alice C. Szwajkos Stryjewski, age 70, of Mableton passed away on Monday, July 9 at her home in Mableton. She was born to John Szwajkos and Stephania Ciasnocha Szwajkos on April 18, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. She worked as an account manager for the New York State Department of Education before moving to Georgia. Sheis preceded in death by her loving husband, Waldemere Bronislaw Stryjewski who passed on August 6, 2002 and her parents, John and Stephania Szwajkos. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa and her husband Timothy Black of Mableton and two sisters, Terry Nowak of Buffalo and Dorothy Szwajkos of L.A. There will be a cremation for Stryjewski. Lera Robertson of Austell, 92, Dies

Her funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton.

Lera V. Goggans Robertson, age 92 of Austell, passed away on Friday, April 20, at Powder Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born to Joseph and Mary Goggans on December 18, 1919 in Grove Oak, AL. She was married to her husband, Ruford Robertson. They had three children, Gerald, Sandy, and Gwen. Robertson was a faithful member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and gardening and was a member of the Friendship Club in Mableton. She retired from Kroger after 11 years of dedicated service as a NCR Operator in 1964. She is preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1977 and her parents. Carole Georgi Allore, 80 of Austell, passed away Thursday, April 12. She grew up in the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo, OH and was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ. She graduated from Western Reserve College, and was a teacher for over 40 years. Her parents, Frank and Margaret Georgi, and sister, Fran Hanthorn have passed, but she is survived by her daughter, Heather Allore; her brother, Frank(Barbara) Georgi and many nieces and nephews. Jim Taylor, age 75 of Mableton, passed away Jan. 28. “Big Jim” was a resident of Cobb County since 1971, was owner-operator of McDonald's for over 50 years and was active in Cobb County Parks and Recreation.
