Weekender: Jazzin', Cleanin' & Sippin', Murder Mystery Solvin'

This weekend is packed with fun from a smooth jazz party, a murder mystery dinner and a beach cleanup followed by free wine. What else could you ask for?

Cool off with the smooth grooves of jazz musician, Kirk Whalum, Peter White and Howard Hewitt. The concert is the conclusion of the Wade Ford Summer Concert Series. Joey Sommerville will be the host. The Weekender: Gospel, Musicals, Jokes and Marty Stuart

Here are some fun events happening in and around Cobb County this weekend.

Gospel Jam!  What: Gospel Jam is an informal gathering of musicians, singers and listeners, meeting on the second Friday nights in the Fellowship Hall of Poplar Springs Baptist Church for around 15 years. String instrument players (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, Dobro, bass, autoharp, etc.) and singers gather to play hymns and Gospel tunes, stand around the piano and sing and enjoy food and fellowship. Usually, there are about 25 musicians from many churches.  Everyone is invited to participate - either by playing, singing, clapping hands and patting feet or listening. See 'The Lorax' Thursday & Marty Stuart on Saturday at Barnes Amphitheatre

Come out on Thursday night for free movies and then enjoy a balmy concert of Marty Stuart on Saturday!

Bring out the entire family Thursday evening to the Mable House Amphitheatre for one last hurrah before school starts. As the last of the Mooovies at Mable House series, the Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is showing Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, at 7:30 p.m. The event is entirely free. Watch the trailer to see more about the movie. Also, on Saturday, mosey on down to the Mable House Amphitheatre for a concert from award-winning Marty Stuart. The concert is part of the Amazon Tickets and Events 2012 Summer Country concert series hosted by two Cobb natives in hopes of breathing new life into the venue. Milk What's Left of Summer at Free 'Mooovies at the Mable House Amphitheater'

Spend some quality time with the family for free at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre Thursday.

As the back-to-school countdown begins, the Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is hosting "Mooovies at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre" as a free, family-friendly way to milk what's left of summer. The event is a free movies series, which begin at dusk. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. The first featured movie, "The Muppets," will be shown on Thursday. "The Lorax" will be the feature film Thursday, Aug. 2, and is an adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss tale beginning with a 12-year-old boy yearning for the affection of the girl of his dreams. "Hairspray" is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 9, and is about the pleasantly-plump teenage Tracy Turnblad teaching 1962 Baltimore about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.

Randall Bramlett Gets Randy for Second Candlelite Concert Saturday

Randall Bramlett will perform at 8 p.m. at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre.

Randall Bramblett and his band are headlining the second concert of the South Cobb Arts Alliance's annual Candlelite Summer Concert Series on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. The concert is free, and the music will get you in the groove. You may not have heard the name Randall Bramblett, but he is well-known for his songwriting talents in musical circles. You might even call him legendary. Since releasing a couple of acclaimed solo albums in the mid-1970s, Bramblett has been honing his craft, joining a jazz-rock group and playing the saxophone and keyboard for Traffic, Steve Winwood, Levon Helm and Bonnie Raitt. Leadership Cobb to Host Music Festival at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre

The upcoming "Summer of Blue Skies Music Festival" event will be held on May 18 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre from 7-10:30 p.m.

The 2012 Leadership Cobb class will present "Summer of Blue Skies Music Festival," benefiting Blue Skies Ministries. The event will be held on Friday, May 18 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre from 7-10:30 p.m. The music festival will include entertainment from local bands Bellwether Station, Paradocs and PRIME.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Skies Ministries: "Lifting families above the clouds of childhood cancer." Since March 2010, Blue Skies has offered retreats to help families living through the challenges of pediatric cancer to heal and find hope where they play, laugh, and reconnect as a family.  Because of generous donations from local businesses and residents to Blue Skies Ministries, families are able to attend …
