Floyd Road and More South Cobb Construction Updates

Check out the latest updates on road constructions, delays and detours around Mableton, Austell and Cobb County from May 13 to 17.

Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Cobb County, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation. Clay Road to Hicks Road: Expect periodic lane closures 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open. Pedestrian Access: Temporary sidewalks are in place are to assist pedestrians while crews install new sidewalks along the east side of Floyd Road. All existing CCT bus stops will be maintained during construction. Expect periodic lane closures with one lane remaining open in both directions between Austell Road to Powder Springs Road. Beginning May 28, Cobb SOT staff is scheduled to begin work replacing the existing, substandard, weight-restricted bridge on Hopkins Road over Wildhorse Creek. In …

Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Cobb County, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation. Expect periodic lane closures with one lane remaining open in both directions between Austell Road to Powder Springs Road. South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road: Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times.  Evelyn Street: The intersection with Concord Road will be permanently closed when the contractor begins work this Monday, May 6. Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb County, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation. Expect periodic lane closures with one lane remaining open in both directions between Austell Road to Powder Springs Road. Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on Paper Mill Road at Sope Creek. One lane will remain open for your commute during the initial utility work. Starting in May, Cobb DOT will start replacing the bridge over Sope Creek on Paper Mill Road. The new bridge will include a six-foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to the National Park Service trails. Paper Mill Road will be closed at the bridge for approximately four months. Davidson Road to Willow Point Pkwy Willow Point Pkwy to Timber Ridge Road Karls Gate Drive to Lake Fjord Pass GDOT I-285 Top-End Resurfacing Project Expect delays as Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. UPDATE: Cobb to Hold Thursday Groundbreaking Event for Floyd Road Project

The project includes widening Floyd Road, constructing a median and the construction of a trail on one side of the road and a sidewalk on the other.

Floyd Road is being redesigned as a four-lane road with a 20-foot-wide raised median dividing the north and southbound lanes. The 20-foot-wide raised median will be similar to many of the same medians with the same widths throughout Cobb County, like the median along East West Connector, which is filled with trees, grass and bushes. James Hudgins, the pre-construction program manager for Cobb Department of Transportation, stated in an email, "The 20’ raised median will be equivalent to the raised median on the East-West Connector.   The 20’ raised median is a GDOT Standard, funded by GDOT, and follow GDOT standards."
