Help Reduce Underage Drinking in Cobb

You're invited to attend the upcoming public meetings held by the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce.

South Cobb residents have the opportunity to get involved and learn about how to reduce underage drinking in their communities at the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce general meeting on Tuesday, May 7. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cobb Sheriff's Work Release Center located at 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta. Discussion will include the taskforce's strategies and plans in tackling underage and youth binge drinking throughout Cobb County. Beverages will be provided, and attendees are invited to bring a sack lunch. Local Youths to Honor Law Enforcement

It's Public Safety Appreciation Week, and Cobb Alcohol Taskforce Youth Council will be showing appreciation Saturday to members of 22 local law enforcement agencies.

Middle and high school aged youth members of the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce Youth Council will be baking and delivering baked goods and thank you notes to 22 law enforcement agency locations around Cobb County this  Saturday as part of Public Safety Appreciation Week. The youth leaders said they wanted to express gratitude for all the support they have received from law enforcement. The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce teams up with civic organizations and the government to help reduce underage drinking.

The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce is conducting a community survey to help identify effective strategies to reduce underage and youth binge drinking. More than 2,000 participants from Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Marietta, Powder Springs, Smyrna and unincorporated Cobb County are needed by Sept. 30. A similar survey was previously conducted in 2009 as a requirement of the Sober Truth On Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Grant.  Click here to take the survey online or access it on the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce website at www.cobbat.org. When will you people take the time to check out the Chevron on the corner of Jim Ownes and Cobb Parkway. Time and time again I have seen sales to those under 21 years of age and no one seems to want to step in and stop it. More goes on there then I will be posting here but all I ask the task force to do is check the place out and they will find out what I have been talking about.   more ›

The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce is marking National Alcohol Awareness Month tonight with a public forum on the damaging effects of underage and youth binge drinking and what we can do to solve the problem. You can join the event from 7 to 8:30 in the second-floor boardroom at the Cobb County government building at 100 Cherokee St. But if you can't make it to Marietta Square, follow the forum live here on Patch.
