From the geniuses who brought you There's Something About Mary and Dumb & Dumber comes a much-anticipated movie about three morons, The Three Stooges. It's Larry, Moe and Curly 2.0. This time around, Sean Hayes plays Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos is Moe, and Will Sasso is Curly. The film is three episodes drawn into one 90-minute movie as the Stooges do what they can to save the orphanage they grew up in. This movie has been talked about for more than 10 years, and, sad to say, it's pretty anticlimactic. I was never a big fan of the original Stooges, and the new Stooges were doing impressions rather than performances. The eye-poking and slapping are so repetitive, it's almost sad. Save the planet one bulb and footstep at a time.
As communities around the world go dark Saturday night, people will gather by candlelight bound by one common purpose--saving the planet. At 8:30 p.m. local time, everyone’s invited to celebrate Earth Hour by turning off all unnecessary lights, or they can go “beyond the hour” by pledging to positively impact the planet. Now observed in more than 130 countries worldwide, the celebration that started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, is uniting the world with something we all have in common--the Earth. So, turn out every light in your home for just one hour at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Use that hour to reconnect with your loved one over a candlelight dinner. Sit around with your kids and tell spooky stories while passing around a flashlight.

One Cobb resident formed the Backyard Chickens Alliance in July and the organization is fighting for the Right to Grow Act. Should Cobb allow backyard chickens?
In February, Rep. Earl Ehrhart introduced the Right to Grow Act to the Georgia Assembly. The bill, which would have prohibited cities and counties from banning gardens, chickens, and honeybees for personal consumption, sailed through the Agriculture Committee only to be killed by the Rules Committee after very aggressive lobbying by the cities and counties. They felt that it violated Home Rule granted to them by the Georgia Constitution and grumbled about potential lawsuits. They said that the cities and counties are better able to legislate their areas without State intervention. The south side of Cobb County is seemingly a group of disparate cities, places and organizations. Or is it?
For years, people have asked me where I live and I respond South Cobb, a suburb of Atlanta near Austell and Mableton. When the perplexed look comes over their faces, I simply offer, "Near Six Flags." The response is always, "Oh, okay." We've lived in South Cobb and been active in the community since 1997. I awakened early this morning and I finally "got it" - why many of the matters related to schools, historical markings, development and redevelopment become arduous very quickly and, unfortunately, much of it is self-inflicted. South Cobb is made up of, from an aeriel view, the cities of Smyrna, Austell and Powder Springs. Smyrna, which has been thriving over the last few decades, has essentially exempted itself from that list. …

Unfortunately, some Georgia legislators have opted for political theatrics by supporting SB 458, Georgia's anti-DREAM Act, a legislative initiative that would ban access to higher education to all undocumented students at all public colleges and universities. This is a bill that solves nothing and will cause many serious problems. As I create healthy habits, I learn that I have to pace myself.
I like pushing myself. I like the feeling of working hard, of being busy and productive. Last week, I pushed myself too much. I was wrking out to one of my Turbo Fire DVDs and all I could see was how my body would look once these workouts paid off. I was doing it, boy! But then, I got too hot. I felt sick. I threw up. I was reminded then that becoming healthy is a process, a journey, and it is not going to happen overnight the way I would like it to. After visiting my first and only Weight Watchers class this week at Orange Hill Baptist Church, I realized that I should not rely upon the accountability I wanted from Weight Watchers. However, I did learn that ultimately Weight Watchers and any lifestyle is about choices. Weight Watchers …

South Cobb Patch reader, Woody Wollesen, won tickets to see Blast!
I wanted to personally thank you and the Patch for the wonderful opportunity to see "Blast" this last Friday evening. It was extremely special from a number of perspectives. First, this was my first attendance of any type of public event (crowds/seating, etc.) since my complete right knee replacement on 12/06/2012. Whatever discomfort resulted was more than offset by the constantly moving performance touching all of the senses. Second, it gave me the opportunity to take my 91-year-old mom (still extremely active) out for the evening to this grand performance. Last, this was the first time for both of us to see and enjoy the Cobb Center, an outstanding and magnificent venue. Please be rest assured that should any future opportunities as …
