What a shame a wonderful person was killed over a selfish woman texting going down the road. We willRead More miss Coach Kay coaching my daughters basketball team. There is no one else like her. I hope that woman gets jail time and has to sit and think about what she has done.
Suntoucher April 15, 2014 at 08:52 pm
In fairness to the victim, it's 40 years for a pistol whipping and $160, but yeah, that still seemsRead More mighty severe. I'd guess that's longer than the average sentence for first degree murder. Like most people I'm all for severely punishing violent criminals when they harm innocent people, but also feel that draconian laws go against "the American way."
electric123 April 16, 2014 at 01:24 am
40 years is quite suitable punishment to make criminal think, and think next time he will robRead More someone, and sends a message to all potential evil doers out there!
Brian April 16, 2014 at 02:51 am
Suntoucher: If you've ever been robbed, especially violently, 40 years would seem about right. It'sRead More unacceptable. Imagine if you were the victim. Let him work for parole and show he's a changed man. In Cobb, there's no revolving door in prison, which is why we don't have as much crime as Fulton County.

I think it's BECAUSE Wheeler is an unusual place to begin a life like this that it was tagged.Read More Sounds like some of the seniors over there are into cocaine and marijuana like they are everywhere else. Wheeler is not immune to these things, nor should it be vilified for the trappings of this youth. It's important that people know that these things can start anywhere instead of hiding one's head under a rock.
wmsmom April 13, 2014 at 08:36 pm
Also, slander is spoken. Libel is written.
Big Willy April 14, 2014 at 08:47 am
Perhaps Wheeler is a great school, but get rid of your sensitivities. It shows that criminals andRead More evil exists everywhere, in every community. You are not exempt even if you are in the burbs. And begging for mercy for this piece of dump? Now I'm wondering about Wheeler.

Dennis, please reread what I wrote: 'After all, if you are taken into custody and accused of aRead More crime, then interrogated, LEO's can LIE to you, but don't you dare lie to them!' Works both ways. Sorry you gave up riding due to stupid motorists. In a way, I don't blame you, but I refuse. I love it. It's better than therapy and cheaper too. I love the good we riders do. ABATE works very hard on this issue, so does the MRF. That's why there are signs and window stickers everywhere: Watch Out For Bikers! I have found the biggest infraction by a motorist is failure to yield right of way, resulting in serious injury and even death, to the rider and passenger, if there is one. These motorists are cited ONLY for failure to yield right of way. A misdemeanor. A fine. Big deal. The charge SHOULD be negligent driving, vehicular manslaughter. The motorist was RESPONSIBLE. I bet that woman who missed her exit and caused the death of a rider wasn't charged for vehicular manslaughter, if anything at all. All I can say is that she will have to live with that for the rest of her miserable life. What she did endangered ALL motorists. The rider paid for her error with his life. No doubt it devastated his family and friends. Like throwing a pebble into a pond. As far as harassment goes, you have not ridden lately. Although I haven't been a victim (yet), I know others who have. I can cite stories. Some years ago, a rider and others set up a benefit event for our veterans, got all the right permits, etc., at Big Pipe Creek Park outside of Taneytown. I went the first night (Fri.). Every single rider was being stopped by the cops before being allowed to be on their way. There were pepper cannons. Someone could have murdered 10 people in Carroll County and not a cop would have responded. I only stayed long enough to hear some bands. All the way home from Taneytown to Westminster, some 10+ miles, I was followed by a sheriff. At Englar Road, where I had to turn off, the sheriff made a U turn and headed back to Taneytown. No harassment there, no sir. I returned on Sunday to find the event wrapping up and hardly anyone was there. Saturday was dismal too. The promoter ended up $500 in the hole and NO money for our veterans! I kid you not, not only were local LEO's there, but also troopers, FBI, ATF, and more. This happens at swap meets also, esp. the ones held at Howard County Fairgrounds. There is a police command center in a huge r.v. type vehicle. Undercover everywhere. We are videotaped and listened to. Pictures are taken of license plates, no matter what kind of vehicle. All of this is because of a minority 1% of riders that engage in criminal activity. I've seen 1%ers at swap meets and there has never been any problem. They are there for the same reasons we are. Treat them with respect as you would everyone else and you get respect back. I'd love to have a conversation with you, Dennis :) But I've hijacked this convo long enough :(
Dennis Gilpin April 15, 2014 at 04:33 pm
Pam, Thank you for supporting our veterans, as I am one myself. My favorite place to rideRead More was in Hartford county. Tried riding around Washington D.C. but 495 was just plain crazy. I did skydiving for years and found it was safer than riding a bike on Marylands highways LOL

I noticed that several of my posts on this thread were missing courtesy of a Mr. Dennis Robaugh,Read More Associate Editorial Director for Patch Media. Patch has a long history of such deletions, I see that it now continues under the 'new' Hale Global brand as well as under the old AOL administration. Says quite a lot about the 'freedom of the press' here on Patch. You can see some of my comments over the years about Patch at the message board: http://kennesawpatch.proboards.com/index.cgi

Previous crimes matter because they show a pattern of unlawful behavior. Witnesses are alwaysRead More sequestered so that their testimony remains free of bias based on the testimony of others. Circumstantial evidence is often the most revealing. This man was convicted of a very, very violent act against young children with whom he had direct access and control over thanks to their mother because women can't stop serving their young children up to their boyfriends even though statistically he probably chose her BECAUSE she had two young daughters. Where the heck is their actual father? Men - be responsible with your kids and women - stop leaving your kids in the hands of boyfriends!!!!!!!

Calling this shmuck a "goofball" is lame. He's an evil piece of nasty shhhhhhht.Read More Disgusting weirdo who needs a dose of his own bad karma.
Melissa Stewart April 15, 2014 at 10:26 am
You can't pray to God something bad will happen to someone. God doesn't/won't do that. You can prayRead More that he finds deliverance from his evil and disgusting ways and that he is able to repent for his sins while he serves his sentence. I don't wish ill will on anyone, that's not God's plan for us. But I pray for his soul that he accepts the Lord into his life and the victim finds peace and healing in his incarceration. Really, nobody wins in this situation. They both need healing.

What I do not understand is ……this guy is in the court room and just got sentenced,Read More and was therefore (or should have been) in the custody of court officers/police ……How the heck did he get away in the first place and why did they not catch him before he got into his truck. Someone needs to take a look at that.

The attacker is a bully and his parents were fully aware of it. As a parent of a non physicallyRead More violent bully, you know when your child is a bully because he bullies his siblings. I used to get complaints from parents of frightened children about my son all the time. My son was finally cured of his bullying ways when another bully punched him with brass knuckles on. Well wishes to the Egan family. This little boy did not deserve this. Nobody does.
Omar Monroe March 31, 2014 at 07:57 am
If thats the case then Melissa Hickson, he deserved what he got, my neighbors daughter was bulliedRead More for a long time, the bullies would be so bad that they even followed her home, waiting down the street to catch her outside, she told her parents but they didn't do anything, when she finally had enough and fought back, she was expelled, and had to go to alternative school.
stephen m george jr mpa March 31, 2014 at 02:36 pm
Something important to think about regarding this situation is ...almost every kid perpetrating aRead More school mass shooting WAS a victim of bullying ...and they had enough. So, let's just brush this crime under the rug and pretend it didn't happen ...and see what happens next.
