Make New Friends, But Keep the Old

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta celebrated the national organization's 100th birthday with a time capsule dedication, complete with a message from Girl Scouts national CEO Anna Maria Chavez.

Girl Scouts, from Daisies to Cadettes, added some of their treasured possessions into a time capsule at the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta headquarters in Mableton on Tuesday as part of the organization’s 100-year anniversary celebration.

On Monday, Girl Scouts descended upon Savannah, the birthplace of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low. On Tuesday, approximately 100 Girl Scouts, Girl Scout alumnae, troop leaders and Girl Scout personnel gathered in Mableton to lock up the time capsule and to celebrate what Girl Scouts have deemed The Year of the Girl.

The women of the Girl Scout Archives donned vintage Girl Scout uniforms from as far back as 1927, complete with badges.

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta has more than 42,000 girls from across 34 counties. When Low first began her troop in 1912, there were 18 girls.

Girl after girl and woman after woman shared their stories of how Girl Scouts helped mold them into strong leaders and confident women who are passionate about changing their worlds and helping the next generation of young women at the same time.
