OMG What's That?

Auditioning 101

That is what I was thinking when I got told that we would be singing in a group for our auditions for The Voice, last Friday. I understood that we would be singing in a secluded area and the judge would not see us, but only listen to our voices. However, we were put into a room with 9 other singers and one judge sitting at a table directly in front of us and yes, she could see us. When the judge opened our audition with, "You are all amazing musicians and love your craft or you wouldn't be here..." I figured correctly that nobody in our room was going to get called back. I was not disappointed, I was the only songwriter singing an original song, she seemed very interested, but in the end, I wasn't picked to come back either. I did learn something that I hadn't on other auditions. When you audition it doesn't matter so much if the song is in your "genre" or not, a lot of these shows are looking for vocal fireworks and if you can deliver that, you may have a chance at going further. For my next audition, I will certainly bring something that is a tried and true vocal firework selection. Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard comes to mind. You have to remember that an audition for a t.v. show is going to be different from an audition to join a choir or group. While the latter is looking for someone that will work well with the group, the former is looking for who will provide the most entertainment to the viewing audience. If the selection, as mine was, is a solid performance, but doesn't have the WOW factor, your chances of getting passed over are much higher. Hope that helps, sure helped me and I feel much better about my not getting the call back call because I feel that I really understand how all this works now.Looking forward to the next audition!Lady Toni

hang in ther Toni, auditions can be tough! Do you perform locally?
Lady Toni, "Many of the world’s most successful people were at one time considered to be failures. A banker in Iowa laughed and told Alexander Graham Bell to remove that “toy” from his office. The toy he referred to was the telephone. Talk about missing an investment opportunity! A movie producer once scrawled “reject” on the screenplay of Gone with the Wind."
Stay true to your gift Lady Toni; many great have traveled the same path... “You will lift up your face without shame.” Job 11:15 NIV www.bobgass.com/todaysword.php You'll Come Out on Top!

Yes John,
I do perform locally. I've gotten away from performing at places like Rev Coffee, but I will start that back in the fall. On the 26th I will be playing at Our Place Bakery and Cafe in College Park. You can check out my upcoming events on my site: www.reverbnation.com/LadyToniGA

Thank you for that Ivory. You know the movie The Help, the book was rejected 60 times before it was picked up. Indeed I will stay true to my gift. God has given it to me and I don't see any reason to doubt Him.
Indeed, you are a lady; a leading lady, in every sense of the word. God speed Lady Toni!

Ivory, I want to thank you. Today has been a difficult day and hearing your words of hope and command to stay true to my gifting has helped me in ways you can't know. Thanks again and God Bless

Please encourage residents to attend CCt flex bus meeting at the South Cobb Library on Tuesday JuneRead More 18t 6pm-8pm. The first meeting only had 11 residents there and none were bus riders. I have encouraged residents that have teens to attend meeting because this help our teens get to jobs or social activities and not just hang out in the neighborhood. We must also plan for the future and underswtrand that just because you are driving today, it may not be the case all the time. Your situation can change with a blink of an eye.
