Healthy Barbecue Choices for Your Memorial Day Cookout

Stick to your healthy diet and still eat great at the family or neighborhood Memorial Day cookout with these great tips.

It's Memorial Day and there is plenty of barbecue, cole slaw, sweet baked beans and other goodies, especially here in South Cobb.

Don't fret because there are plenty of ways to stick to your healthy diet while still having fun with family and friends.

Here are healthy choices to try for your Memorial Day barbecue:

Skip the burger, try the hot dog instead. According to this Yahoo article, a hamburger with cheese is about 510 calories with 26 grams of fat. A hot dog is about 300 calories with 17 grams of fat. The video above from ABC's "The Revolution," suggest trying a hamburger with a lettuce wrap instead of a buttery bun. If you really want to be healthy, try these tofu barbecue burgers. (They look delicious. Wonder if they taste that way!)

Try cole slaw, bypass the potato salad. Sticking with potato salad will save you about 277 calories and 17 grams of fat per cup. A cup of potato salad is about 360 calories per cup. If you must have potato salad, try this no-mayo version.

Grab a brew. Don't go for the margarita, at least not the traditional ones. Grab a light beer, which has less than 100 calories.
