Friday's concert not only kicks off Memorial Day weekend, but a new effort by two Cobb natives to restore the Barnes Amphitheater to its former glory.

Country music fans can enjoy a warm night at the as they listen to the hits of and other musical guests, Leah Seawright and David Fair. Tickets for the concert are now discounted, ranging from $15 for lawn seats and up to $35 for terrace seats.

Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster or at the gate before the concert, which begins at 8 p.m.

The Friday concert is the first of the Amazon Tickets and Events 2012 Summer Country Series, five concerts offered at the amphitheatre throughout the summer.

Other concerts in the series include: Steel Magnolia on June 29; Lorrie Morgan on July 27; Marty Stuart on Aug. 11; and Little Texas and Restless Heart on Aug. 24.

Reed Foust and Wes Walker, Cobb natives, are partners in Amazon Tickets and Events. They hope the concert series will restore the amphitheatre to its glory days of 30,000 annual visitors, the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Opened in 2003, the amphitheatre has 2,400 seats, which are all covered by a pavilion, plus plenty of lawn seating. For many, it’s a hidden gem of a venue in Metro Atlanta.

In an effort to for private promoters and community organizations, schools and churches. The county no longer promotes concerts there, but does continue to maintain the property.

Will this concert series help bring in more concert-goers and revenue for the Barnes Amphitheatre? Or is the venue a lost cause? What do you think?

The concert series has not been promoted in a way to attrack large crowds.
As a regular season ticket holder and Table purchaser for every season since it opened I was only informed about the series two weeks ago. I will always support the Amphtheatre but I had alrady agreed to get a table at Marietta square before this was ever announced. I hope tonights show was fantastic and near capacity. I plant to do what I can for the future shows.

Please encourage residents to attend CCt flex bus meeting at the South Cobb Library on Tuesday JuneRead More 18t 6pm-8pm. The first meeting only had 11 residents there and none were bus riders. I have encouraged residents that have teens to attend meeting because this help our teens get to jobs or social activities and not just hang out in the neighborhood. We must also plan for the future and underswtrand that just because you are driving today, it may not be the case all the time. Your situation can change with a blink of an eye.
