Friday Football Preview

Eagles rolling, Wolfpack reeling, Pebblebrook desperate

Each area football team is going in a different direction this week. is riding high after a third straight victory. is trying to gather together what's left of the season after two tough losses. is simply looking for a win. The Falcons have struggled through the first three games. Which direction will the teams be going in week four? We will find out on Friday night.

South Cobb at Hillgrove

For the first time in five years, the Eagles have won their first three games on the season. Each victory has been by a touchdown or less, proof that this team can win close games.

Last week, the Eagles defeated Northview 35-28. Running back Chris Beck was spectacular all night for South Cobb. He rushed for a game-high 274 yards and scored three touchdowns. 199 of his yards came in the second half, when the Eagles outscored the Titans 21-7.

Beck has been consistently the best player on the field in each of the Eagles first three games. He has 527 yards and seven touchdowns, so far.

South Cobb will be relying on their junior superstar again, as they visit Hillgrove this week. The Hawks have a stout defense, giving up an average of only 9.6 points per game. Last week, Hillgrove shut out North Forsyth 45-0.

The challenge is high for the Eagles, but they have had challenging games all year and won every time.

Prediction: South Cobb 35 Hillgrove 34

Whitefield Academy vs. SW Atlanta Christian

The Wolfpack have a lot to be proud of after last week's 17-10 loss to Wilkinson. Although, they should not be proud of a loss, they can point to the effort put forth against a top-notch opponent.

The game was a defensive struggle, with both teams finding it hard to move the ball. Whitefield's defense held the Warriors to just 219 total yards, while the offense mustered only 118 yards.

The Wolfpack should gain more yards this week against a less than stellar defense. SW Atlanta Christian is giving up 28.5 points per game this season.

Whitefield's Richard Sherrell will have to regain the form he showed in the first two week's of this season. Sherrell gained over 100 yards rushing in those games and will be given lots of opportunities to run for that mark against the Warriors.

Prediction: Whitefield Academy 28 SW Atlanta Christian 20

Pebblebrook at Harrison

The Falcons took their worst loss of the season last week, dropping the game against Chapel Hill 24-6. The loss was especially tough because Chapel Hill was a beatable opponent.

The six points were the lowest amount scored through the first three games for Pebblebrook. Quarterback C.J. Goodman played with an injury and couldn't do much on offense. Already trailing 7-0, Goodman threw his first pass of the game and it was intercepted. It was pretty much downhill from there for Pebblebrook.

In order to gain their first win, the Falcons have to get more consistent play from the offensive line. Goodman is getting rushed on nearly every snap and that is leading to sacks and turnovers. Even on the only touchdown, against Chapel Hill, Goodman was knocked to the ground as he threw the pass.

Harrison is another beatable opponent for the Falcons, but they must handle the rush and cut down on mistakes. If they can do that, Pebblebrook has a chance to win. Eventually the Falcons will do that, but it won't happen this week.

Prediction: Harrison 20 Pebblebrook 13
