Whitefield Academy boys hoops squad advances to Final Four, South Cobb baseball goes 1-1 in home games

Whitefield Academy’s boys’ basketball team advanced to the Final Four after beating Athens Christian Academy 90-55 in the quarterfinals and North Cobb Christian 86-59 in the Elite 8.

The Wolfpack have won their three games in this playoff run by an average of 25 points. Whitefield Academy faces Terrell County in the 2010-11 GHSA Class A state semifinals, Wednesday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. at the Macon Centreplex.

In baseball, the school had a tough week going 0-3 with loses to Westminster, 5-4, Allatoona, 12-0 and Bremen, 14-3. The Wolfpack sit at 3-3 on the young season and play their next game on the road against North Atlanta, Monday, March 7 at 4:30 p.m.

The girls’ golf team went 2-0 this past week. Their first win came in a 117-99 victory over Walker at Marietta City Club. The Lady Wolfpack later recorded a 96-83 triumph against Pace Academy at North Fulton Golf Course.

The boys’ golf team won their only match of the week, 178-171 against Pace Academy at North Fulton Golf Course.

The boys’ and girls’ tennis teams went 2-0 in their matches, with 5-0 wins over Landmark Christian and Strong Rock Christian.

In soccer, the girls opened the week with a 4-2 win over Pace Academy on Tuesday. However, that joy was short-lived after being blanked 8-0 verses East Paulding on Thursday.

While the girls were victorious against Pace Academy, the boys lost their lone contest of the week, falling 3-0 versus the Knights. This was their only game of the schedule.

Whitefield’s boys’ lacrosse squad came up on the short end of the stick in a 13-7 loss to Kennesaw Mountain.

South Cobb

South Cobb picked up a 6-4 win over visiting Paulding County on the diamond Wednesday behind solid pitching performances from Zach Williams and David Collins. However, the Eagles could not make it back-to-back home wins the following evening with an 11-9 defeat against North Paulding.

Avery Anderson hit a three-run homer and David Collins had two hits with a double and an RBI, but it was not enough to get the win. South Cobb’s weekend match versus Cedar Grove was rained out. The team’s next game takes place on Tuesday, March 8 at home against Osborne. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

Pebblebrook

The Pebblebrook Falcons failed to get a victory last week, losing 4-0 versus Carver and 11-6 against Lithia Springs to remain winless on the season at 0-4.

In soccer, the boys and girls soccer teams lost their matches this past Tuesday against Harrison. The boys were upended 3-1 while the girls were unable to score a goal, losing 9-0.
