South Cobb Kids Can Get Free Hawks or Wiggles Tickets for Summer Reading

The in Mableton, the in Austell and the county’s other 15 libraries are giving a free ticket to a regular season 2011-2012 Atlanta Hawks home game for every student who reads at least five books this summer.

This is the county library system’s seventh annual Atlanta Hawks “Check It Out Reading Challenge,” running now through August 19, the last day to register for the Reading Challenge, for students of all ages from grades K-12.

After the students read the selected books, they can visit www.checkitoutreading.com to register for the program. After Sept. 1, emails with reward details will be sent out, so that parents can redeem tickets.

Children participating in the summer reading program can also win free tickets to “The Wiggles Big Birthday Party” at the on July 12. All entries must be received by July 6.

To enter, children should read a book, then complete a book report form and turn it in at the South Cobb Regional, Sweetwater Valley or other Cobb County library branch. The forms are available to download at www.cobbcat.org/wiggles.

Winners will be notified via phone or email. All prizes must be picked up by noon on July 12. Only one entry is allowed per child.

“The library is very pleased to partner with the Cobb Energy Centre to provide these tickets,” said Jonathan McKeown, associate director for the Cobb County Public Library System. “Anytime we can help kids get excited about reading, it’s a good thing.”

The Wiggles are a globally-recognized performing group for children who formed in Australia in 1991 and have since become that one of country’s most popular preschool television programs. The group has received worldwide acclaim for its educational and charitable efforts and its members were named UNICEF goodwill ambassadors in 2008. They are currently on a tour of 31 cities in the United States and Canada to celebrate the group’s 20th birthday.
