Three of the seven Cobb County high school seniors to be awarded 2012 Gates Milennium scholarships are from South Cobb High School.
South Cobb High seniors Chinonso Ogojiaku, Amber Hubert and Uduak Obot were named Gates Scholars. Gates Finalists were Kia Jones and Derek Koger.
The Gates Scholarship is one of the most competitive in the nation, and offers recipients full tuition, room and board to any college or university for only 1,000 students in the entire nation. The students can choose to earn up to a doctorate degree, free of charge.
Principal Ashley Hosey was excited when he received the news and congratulated the three students on their character, commitment to excellence, and high academic performance, said South Cobb High Assistant Principal Michael Johnson in a statement.
"For the third year in a row, South Cobb High School in Cobb County again exceeded expectations, showing prowess as the only high school in Cobb County to have the most Gates Millennium Scholarship winners!" Johnson wrote.
