South Cobb Clinches Playoff Berth on Senior Day

Eagles secure playoff spot behind running back Chris Beck's monstrous performance

The Eagles earn a trip to the postseason by defeating the Falcons 27-14, at home on Senior Day.

Led by senior running back, Chris Beck's all-world performance of 205 rushing yards on 22 carries and a touchdown score, the Eagles clinched one of the top four playoff spots in Region 4 of Class 5A.

Pebblebrook jumped out to a 14-7 lead midway through the first half, and looked to control the time of possesion battle early on. However, sloppy play and a number of turnovers from both teams kept this game close going into halftime.

The Eagles' offense found their rhythm in the second half, scoring 20 unanswered points behind the legs of Beck, as well as the play of junior quarterback, Stephon Masha.

Masha would tie the game early in the third quarter on a quarterback sneak from the goal line. On their next possesion, Masha would find junior wide receiver, Ryan Sumner, down the field for a 52-yard touchdown pass on a "Sportcenter like" pass play that gave the Eagles the lead for good. For the game, Masha would account for three South Cobb scores (two passing, one rushing).

Beck would put the game away early in the 4th quarter with a 39-yard touchdown run.

The Eagles defense was led by senior defensive back, Jamal Thomas , who had 2 interceptions and made a number of big plays to keep the Falcons offense in check during the second half.

South Cobb travels to Savannah, Georgia next weekend to take on Windsor Forest in the first round of the 2011 GHSA Class AAAAA Playoffs.
