South Cobb Area Superintendent Headed to Virginia

Robert Benson, who currently serves as an area superintendent for Cobb County schools, will be leaving for another superintendent job at the end of this month.

Robert Benson moved to Cobb from Virginia in 2003 to become the principal of , and now he's headed back to the Old Dominion to take a job as a superintendent, the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Benson currently serves as the Area 1 assistant superintendent for the Cobb County School District, which includes Pebblebrook and South Cobb high schools, as well as several middle and elementary schools.

He will be leaving that post at the end of June and starting his new job July 1 as the superintendent for King George County Schools, the MDJ says.

According to Fredericksburg.com, he'll be making an annual $134,400. That's up nearly $30,000 from the $106,000 he's making here in Cobb, the MDJ reports.

Benson has 23 years of experience in public schools, a release from King George County says. He has a bachelor's in music from West Virginia University, a master's in educational leadership from George Mason University, and is anticipating graduating with his doctorate in educational leadership soon from the University of Southern Mississippi.

"Mr. Benson began his teaching and administrative career in Prince William County, Virginia, where he served as an elementary and high school music teacher, basketball and soccer coach, assistant principal of Stonewall Jackson High School, and ultimately, principal of C.D. Hylton High School," the release says.

"Mr. Benson’s wife, Shelley, is also a career educator. Her teaching career includes 17 years as a high school art teacher in Prince William County, Virginia and seven years of pre-school and kindergarten teaching at in Powder Springs, Georgia. Their son, Samuel, is a high-spirited middle school student who enjoys playing sports, in particular baseball. While his outward appearance most days would lead you to think he is an Atlanta Braves fan, he is secretly a life-long Baltimore Orioles fan like his dad."
