Mableton Senior Earns Full Ride to UNC-Charlotte

Whitefield Academy senior Tanner Parks was recently awarded the Levine Scholarship valued at $140,000.

Whitefield senior Tanner Parks of Mableton recently received the prestigious Levine Scholarship from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Established in 2009 by benefactors Sandra and Leon Levine, the Levine Scholarship is awarded each year to 15 extraordinary high school seniors from across the country. The Levines have an enviable legacy of philanthropic support in the Carolinas, establishing the Levine Children’s Hospital and contributing to the arts community and other projects in the area.

Based on scholarship, ethical leadership and civic engagement, the four-year scholarship includes full tuition, room and board, and four summers of experiences both in the United States and abroad that will develop leadership skills, social awareness, and an international perspective. A grant will also be awarded to Parks to implement a service project of his own design before graduation. The total value of this four-year package is estimated at $140,000.

Parks is president of the Whitefield Honor Council, a member of the National Honor Society, a Silver Key Scholastic Arts winner, a varsity swimmer, an active member of the Whitefield drama department, and a member of the International Thespian Society. He has also been a varsity tennis player and was president of his sophomore class. Parks has a passion for service, volunteering as a Young Life leader and working with underprivileged children in Quito, Ecuador through the school’s annual mission trip.
