Gwinnett 2013 Spelling Bee Is Saturday, Feb. 2

Nearly 90 students, some from Suwanee, will compete in the event in Lawrenceville. The district bee will be later in Febuary at North Gwinnett High.

Nearly 90 Gwinnett County students, including some from Suwanee, will compete at the district's spelling bee this Saturday, February 2.

The students are the spelling bee champions from their local elementary and middle schools. There are a total of 88 schools with representatives at the Gwinnett County Public Schools' bee.

The competition will be held at Central Gwinnett High, located at 564 W. Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. It is sponsored by the Gwinnett County Association of Educators.

Student participants will register from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., the local school spelling winners will first compete in a written spelling bee contest.

The top 12 spellers from the written bee then will compete in the public oral bee. Last year's bee produced a three-time winner -- Asad Ladhani, a student at North Gwinnett Middle School.

In addition, the top 12 spellers will represent their schools and school systems in the District 3 Bee, which will take place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2013, at North Gwinnett High in Suwanee.

The following list represents each of the schools -- 62 elementary schools and 26 middle schools -- that will have its "stellar speller" at the GCPS bee Feb. 2.
