The Cobb Board of Education will meet Thursday morning to set the fiscal year 2014 property tax millage rate.

The special called meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the board room of the Cobb County School District central office, 514 Glover Street, Marietta.

In May the board approved an $856.3 million fiscal year 2014 budget that includes holding the present millage rate of 18.90 mills. That budget went into effect on July 1.

By state law, the board must act separately from budget adoption to approve the millage rate.

Brad Johnson, the chief financial officer for Cobb schools, said the school board will have to modify the budget at the July 24 business meeting following the release of the fiscal year 2014 Cobb school tax digest earlier this month.

The board's adopted budget was predicated on zero growth in the digest, but the final numbers reflected a 1.28 percent drop.
