Cobb SAT Scores Drop from 2012

Cobb and Marietta students still scored better than statewide and national averages.

For the second year in a row, overall average scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test dropped slightly for students in Cobb County.

Students in the 16 high schools in the Cobb County School District averaged an SAT score of 1515, down from an average of 1520 in 2012, according to figures released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Education

At Marietta High School, scores also fell slightly from last year, from 1459 overall to 1456.

The figures for Cobb and Marietta are still higher than the state of Georgia average of 1452 and the national average of 1498.

Four Cobb high schools—all in East Cobb—posted average SAT scores of 1600 or higher, with Walton topping out at 1741. The others are Lassiter, Pope and Wheeler.

Students at Harrison, Kell and Kennesaw Mountain high schools all averaged scores of 1500 or higher.

On the low end, Pebblebrook's average was 1283 and Osborne's 1232.

The SAT tests students' college preparedness in critical reading, mathematics and writing skills.

The Cobb averages in each of those areas either held steady or dropped from 2012: reading 512 (same as last year), math 510 (down from 512) and writing 493 (down from 494).

The following scores for Cobb and Marietta include the number of students at each school taking the test, following by mean, or average, scores in critical reading, math and writing, culminating with the overall average score.

For a comparison, here are the 2012 SAT scores compiled and analyzed by the Cobb County School District.
