Clarkdale Celebrates 50 Years with Brand New School

and those who support it are survivors.

The school and its spirit have survived 50 years and a once-in-a-100-years flood of September 2009.

The students, parents and teachers couldn't receive a better present than a new, state-of-the-art facility. As part of its celebration on Aug.4, the school administrators will dedicate the new building during a ceremony and special guest, rapper Ludacris may also make an appearance.

The school was destroyed during the 100-Year Flood of September 2009. Since then, the students and teachers have been split, but thriving, at Compton Elementary and Austell Intermediate schools.

In March 2011, after receiving the good news that the Cobb County School District would move forward with rebuilding Clarkdale's replacement school, students, parents and teachers celebrated.

Maybe Jaye Goddard, who's taught at Clarkdale for 27 years, said it best.

"I have been here a long time, and it's because of the children, community and sense of pride related to learning. I have been offered positions elsewhere over the years, but never entertained leaving here. Had it been decided to not rebuild, I was prepared to retire at the end of the school year. Now, I can wait until we're in the new school and the circle will be complete," Goddard said.
