Boteler Named Executive Vice President at Chatt Tech

Chattahoochee Technical College President Dr. Ron Newcomb recently announced Dr. Trina Boteler of Jasper has assumed the responsibilities of a newly created position at the college. 

As of Dec. 1, Boteler, who has been serving the college as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the interim Vice President of Community and Economic Development, became Chattahoochee Technical College’s new Executive Vice President.

“Dr. Boteler is intimately familiar with CTC’s operational procedures and issues as well as with the vision, mission and strategic goals,” said Newcomb. “She has many years of senior-level leadership experience at multiple technical colleges and is widely respected as a high-energy and highly knowledgeable leader by the CTC family.” 

As the Executive Vice President, Dr. Boteler will be the second highest ranking individual at Chattahoochee Technical College. The position focuses on the strategic planning of the college, with additional day-to-day roles of facilitating coordination among the major functional areas, and providing the leadership team an additional resource as needed on operational questions.

Boteler, who holds degrees in physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University, previously worked at Gwinnett Technical College and Appalachian Technical College before its merger with Chattahoochee Technical College and North Metro Technical College in 2009. She began her career in education teaching physics at Pickens High School before teaching high school science and math in Gwinnett County Public Schools for six years, followed by becoming the physics instructor at Gwinnett Tech in March 1984.

Having taught physics, geology, chemistry, and math at Gwinnett Technical College, she became division director of Arts and Sciences in December 1999 and Vice President for Academic Affairs in January 2001. In January of 2006, her daily commute was decreased from around 3-4 hours per day to about 10 minutes per day when she accepted the position of Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Appalachian Technical College where she remained until her December 2008 appointment as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Chattahoochee Technical College.

Boteler has received many awards and accolades during her career, including STAR teacher, Georgia State University’s Technology Education Award, the Association of Science-Technology Centers Honor Roll of Teachers, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Professor of the Year for the State of Georgia and the Chair Academy’s 2005 International Exemplary Leadership Award. She has also served on the Georgia Junior Academy of Sciences Competitions Governing Board and was a member of several professional organizations. She has made dozens of conference presentations at national and regional conferences and published four articles in science education journals. 

The position of Vice President of Academic Affairs will be discussed at a later date. The position of Vice President of Community and Economic Development is in the process of being filled.
