Banks' Proposed Compromise School Calendar Up for Viewing

Cobb Schools Board of Education David Banks' new calendar is available for viewing.

The Cobb County School District has posted the calendar school board member David Banks is proposing at next Thursday's Board of Education meeting.

As discussed at a , the calendar would start the school year Aug. 8, would end the first semester before Christmas and would finish the year before Memorial Day, with weeklong breaks in September, November, February and April.

Banks' plan also would add 10 minutes to the school day. You can check out the proposed calendar to the right.

  • The CCSD this week decided to limit comments allowed on its official Facebook page after the district determined some of the feedback was offensive or inappropriate. Posted on its site:

“Due to recent offensive and/or inappropriate posts, CCSD Facebook page posting permissions have been changed to allow only comments on posts made by CCSD. Facebook does not provide an option for comments to be screened prior to posting, and the district does not have the resources to provide constant monitoring of the site. We apologize for the inconvenience.’’

Users now will be prevented from adding whatever comments they want to the district’s Facebook wall, but will still be allowed to comment on items posted by the CCSD.

  • The CCSD is Cobb County's largest employer and it is currently seeking safety-minded, full-time bus drivers for the 2011-12 school year.

Starting salary is $14.37 an hour other listed benefits include:

Individuals be able to pass a stringent background check including MVR, criminal background and references. A CDL license is required but CCSD transportation offers a training program and on-site driving test to assist you with obtaining it.
