Austell Man Crowned Chatt Tech's First Homecoming King

Krista Stapleton, a nursing student, is the school's first homecoming queen.

For the first time in the college’s history, has its own royalty. Krista Stapleton of Canton and Jonathan King of Austell were crowned as the queen and king of homecoming.

Stapleton is a nursing student who plans to work in pediatrics. She volunteers at the CTC library and urges others to be more active at school. King, who is a freelance graphic designer, is studying business. He said he would like his sales numbers to exceed the world’s population.

Also on the court were: Amanda Akins of Atlanta, Ontoyria Blackstone of Marietta, Christopher Brown of Hiram, Donald Eversten of Powder Springs, Travis Foster of Austell, Phillip Grant of Atlanta, Camellia Hodges of Canton and Megan Manning of Woodstock. Members of the court were voted on by the football team and a selection of students, staff and faculty.

In only its second year, the Chattahoochee Technical College Golden Eagles Football Team played to a record crowd at Sunday. It marked the first homecoming for the college as the team took on Southern Tech of North Carolina. The No. 1 ranked club football team came away with its sixth victory this season with a 26-12 win over the Wildcats. 

Students, faculty, staff and fans enjoyed tailgating before the game with hamburgers and hot dogs and watching the half time show that featured entertainment by the CTC cheerleaders and a performance by the Osborne High School drum line. But the premier event of half time was the introduction of the homecoming court and crowning of the king and queen.

MORE ON THE CHATT TECH HOMECOMING COURT

  • Queen: Ms. Krista Stapleton (Canton) - Krista is enrolled in the degree Nursing program and plans to work in pediatrics. In her free time, she volunteers at the CTC library. Krista believes in being positive and urges others to be more active at school.
  • King: Mr. Jonathan King (Austell) – Jonathan’s program of Study is Business Administrative Technology. He is a Freelance graphic designer and he designed the homecoming banner. He believes that you never stop learning how to be a better person. Jonathan says his CTC education has helped him to understand that the reality of his dreams cannot be built over night but build over time. Eventually he would like his sales numbers to exceed the world’s population.
  • Court:
    • Ms. Camellia Hodges (Canton) – Camellia is enrolled in the Technical Studies program at CTC. She plans on continuing her education at a four year college or university. Camellia volunteers for many originations and she wants to be an effective leader in CTC the community.
    • Ms. Amanda Akins (Atlanta) – Amanda is a CTC Cheerleader and she is majoring in Early Childhood Education. Amanda hopes to open up her own daycare. Amanda says she hopes to move mountains with her degree, the sky is the limit.
    • Ms. Ontoyria Blackstone (Marietta) – Toy, as she is called by her friends, is studying Criminal Justice. As captain of CTC Cheerleaders, Toy believes in being a positive, supportive leader and role model to others. Her goal is to have a great impact as a peer leader at CTC.
    • Ms. Megan Manning (Woodstock) - Megan is studying Business Administration and plans to continue her education at a four year institution. She is involved in multiple community service groups, but her biggest leadership role is being a mother. Megan hopes to inspire other parents to pursue their education goals.
    • Mr. Donald Eversten (Powder Springs) – Donald’s program of studies in Technical Communications. Donald believes in the simple phrase of “aspire to inspire. By putting his belief into a practice he plans to do his best to inspire other CTC students.
    • Mr. Travis Foster (Austell) – is enrolled in the Technical Communications program and plans to further his education majoring in English. He sees himself as a behind the scenes kind of person. Travis would like to use his creative talents to one day be a film writer for major motion pictures.
    • Mr. Phillip Grant (Atlanta) – Phillip is studying CIS Networking. He is the President of CTC International Club, the International Student Mentor Program Coordinator and a member of Christian Fellowship Club, OWLA, AND a current member on the Track & Field Team. Phillip believes that a good leader is partly characterized by their ability to interact well with their peers as well as being a well-rounded individual.
    • Mr. Christopher Brown (Hiram) – Chris is enrolled in the Criminal Justice program. For the past 6 years, Chris has received the Commander's Award from the marines for his volunteering efforts for the Toys for Tots program. Chris believes that by volunteering, you can have a great  impact on others in a positive way.
