South Cobb Area Students Urged to Apply for Morgan Family Scholarship

Rep. Alisha Morgan and her husband Cobb Board of Education Vice Chairman David Morgan have established the Morgan Family Scholarship for students at and high schools.

Students who are high-achieving and service-oriented both within and outside of their schools will be selected to receive the scholarship, awarded annually.

"We have such bright students with tremendous potential at South Cobb and Pebblebrook High Schools. This is a way for our family, with the support of the community, to ensure our students reach their goals to obtain a higher education,” Alisha Morgan told South Cobb Patch Monday in an email. “We don't want financial need to a be barrier to reaching those goals.”

Two students, one from each high school, will receive $500 to put towards their education at a college, university or technical school in Georgia.

To qualify for the scholarship, students:

• Must be graduating seniors at either South Cobb or Pebblebrook high schools,
• Have an unmet financial need,
• A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher,
• Must be interested in pursuing education, English, history, international relations, political science, or women/gender studies.

With their application form, students must also submit a personal essay of no more than 500 words, two letters of recommendation, and an official high school transcript.  Students may also choose to include a resume with their application. All applications must be received by Friday, May 18, 2012, and should be sent to:

Scholarship winners will be announced at The Morgan Family Scholarship Awards Breakfast on Saturday, June 9, 2012.  The breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. and will be held at the Next Level Sanctuary of at 7400 Factory Shoals Road in Austell.
