"It was amazing the darts that got thrown from people in my own party," said Morgan in addressing why fellow Democrats in the state legislative didn't support her amendment. "I believe we need to re-think how we decide who goes to what schools. The current way doesn't help our kids."

One resident asked Morgan if she had any concrete evidence that charter schools made a difference in a student's learning. "I need something to show me that I should vote for this," the resident said, referring to the November election where voters get to decide the fate of House Resolution 1162.

Tony Roberts said there is quantifying evidence such as test scores that show better results in a charter school setting. "The issue is not good schools versus bad schools," said Roberts. "The issue is what do parents and their children want."

Another parent said they appreciated having another option for education in Cobb County. "It allows me the opportunity to make a choice for my children--we need to have options."
