Lee: I Had Nothing to Do With Byrne Attack Robo-Call

Several Cobb residents received an interesting call of a recording of what sounded like Cobb Chairman candidate Bill Byrne explaining that he'd never want to live in Cobb County again.

The call, which came around 8 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, was paid for by an independent committee called Cobb 2012.

Melanie Ayash, a Cobb resident, stated in an email to South Cobb Patch, "I am appalled at the robo-call I received tonight regarding Cobb Commission Chairman that included curse words for my entire family to hear!"

Ayash received the call at 8:57 p.m. on Saturday and she said she's on the "Do Not Call" list.

She wrote in an email, "I was appalled that a call, that I was not interested in receiving in the first place, subjected my children to inappropriate language.   We are on the "do not call" list yet political candidates obviously are not made to comply with these restrictions.  The call came in around 9pm which I feel is also an inappropriate time to interrupt a family.  When we did not pick up the call, it rolled to voice mail and thus played out loud for everyone to hear the inappropriate language."

She and her husband, Mark, thought Current Chairman Tim Lee was behind the call.

Lee, currently facing Byrne in a race to keep his seat, said he had nothing to do with the call.

"It wasn't me," Lee told South Cobb Patch on Monday.

He said he and his campaign workers have done robo-calls, but they were always encouraging residents to get out and vote or included testimonials about Lee and never included negative content about Byrne.

"I have not heard it. I don't know who they are. I don't know what they're doing. It's somebody separate," Lee said.
