Illegal Immigrants Under 30 Apply by Thousands for Work Permits

Several young undocumented residents of Mableton and Austell gathered their documents and forms to apply for a special work permit that would prevent them from being deported.

Hundreds of illegal immigrants under the age of 31 in Georgia, including Mableton and Austell, are gathering any visas, passports or other identification they have because the Department of Homeland Security is now accepting applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a type of work permit which would prevent them from being deported.

, and it could potentially help an estimated 1 million undocumented young people who would have been eligible for the failed Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, according to Huffington Post.

Approval for the permit does not provide any type of legal status or a path to citizenship, said U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas.

Homeland Security announced Tuesday the specific documents illegal immigrants must present to apply for DACA. In addition to paying a $465 fee, undocumented immigrants must provide a passport or birth certificate, school transcripts, medical and financial records and military records.

However, some critics are concerned about possible fraudulent applications and documents from illegal immigrants.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, called the policy backdoor amnesty on Tuesday.

Other Republicans accuse Obama of bypassing Congress to improve his standing politically, just months before Election Day. Others say the program shows favor to undocumented immigrants over unemployed American citizens.

The program is an effort for Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to focus deportation efforts on criminals and other harmful illegal immigrants.

To be eligible for the special work permit, undocumented immigrants must show that they:

  • Arrived in the U.S. before they were 16
  • Are now under the age of 30
  • Have lived in the U.S. for at least five years,
  • Are in high school, have graduated from high school or is in the military
  • Have not been convicted of specific crimes or pose a safety threat.

could not qualify for this program because he did not arrive in the U.S. until the age of 16.

The Associated Press obtained an internal document outlining the execution of the program. The shows that officials estimated about 1.04 million people would apply for DACA in the first year, and that about 890,000 would be eligible.

The document also showed estimates that the program would cost $468 million to $585 milion, bringing in about $484 million in fees.

Each case is likely to take months to review.

“All we want to do is have a better life and just be better,” said Cruz, who is applying for a work permit.

As I said, I'm sorry you can't find a job, however it's not the Mexicans' fault. They are as much suffering from a bad economy after a boom as anyone else is.
I would put your rage on the jerks who packaged up factory jobs and shipped them to China's countryside, Vietnam and Cambodia so they could pay people less than $1 a day and get filthy rich in the process selling poorly built products at huge profits. I wouldn't blame it on the Mexicans. It's these rich, greedy jerks that do this kind of things. And by rich, greedy, jerks, I'm not even talking the top 1%, or millionaires. I'm talking people who make $20 million or more a year like Romney. They are at fault for the disappearance of the middle class and they are the ones that ruined this country, through greed.

Brian,
I agree with you most Americans are lazy, there are no old fashioned work ethics or integrity anymore, everybody wants it on easy street, I see 75% laziness at my own college of Brown-Mackie in Atlanta were students complain about no money but yet spend time social networking on Facebook, and female student crying about their deadbeat ex boyfriends of ex husband not paying child support or some money issue instead of getting their lazy asses up and get a job and support themselves and strain their own families resources while in college. Or, want some man to support them when they are slobs or obese and want a "Free Ride"

Pam,
Take any job, alot of my friends want to pick and choose their jobs and are about in foreclosures so take anything available til you find a job that is to your liking
Charles Schwable August 18, 2012 at 05:59 am
Pam,
that is the attitude I expect coming out of Cobb County, if it ain't white you need to go, but have you ever been to a foreign country and deal with different people and their laws? or check out racial diversity of cities outside of Atlanta?

Brian, I have tried to push my representative to adopt a stronger stance on immigration but unfortunately my representative is David Scott. The guy who makes an appearance once every two years just before the elections, does a few photo ops and promises the folks in Clayton county that he'll be sending more taxpayer dollars their way. He keeps getting reelected for the simple reason he has the letter D as political affiliation. Deborah Honeycutt, a doctor who runs her own practice and is African American also has challenged him twice but alas she has that accursed R letter for political party.
I will also agree with the folks making the argument that more attention needs to be given to employers who are hiring the illegals. Legal immigrants I have not a problem in the world with. For those with short attention spans remember last year when the farmers in Georgia were complaining about being hurt by newly passed immigration laws? Have you heard from them this year? They simply got on board and have had time to adjust, so don't tell me it can't be done.

And what good will that do? except someone else OK Gay marriages?
Charles Schwable August 18, 2012 at 11:31 am
Mr Bailey,
It be well and good what you are saying about laws at hand till things change but there are opportunist whom use the illegal immigrants to work all day long in construction for $50 plus lunch, and the normal American worker will want higher wages and do not stick together but the illegals do. They generally grow up in villages in their country and migrate together so they do not fall prey to robbery or rapes traveling hundreds of miles on foot to a better life, whether they send their earning back home to care for their elderly parents or sickly sibling for you know being a military vet those countries medical technology is less to be desired so a little bit more compassion on our part goes along way.

Charles, I have applied for every kind of job out there. I will admit that, in the beginning I applied only to jobs that were comparable to what I had. As time went on, I started applying for jobs that were less comparable. I rented my house out last year so that I could save it. The renter did not pay rent for four months. And she managed to do a lot of damage to the house. And since I was living with my brother and his company closed in May of last year, my unemployment pay had to go to help us survive in his house. I couldn't afford to fix my house good enough to rent it again, and I couldn't make the payments since I was helping my brother. I took the renter to court, she said she would pay, she didn't, I filed the garnishment papers, she filed bankruptcy. At that point, I started looking for anything I could find. I went to Target, Walmart, Kohl's, Publix, Kroger, and several other stores and filled out their applications. I filled out applications at Waffle House and some other restaurants. I applied for one of those "seasonal" jobs at Home Depot. They did the phone interview, and then they said I didn't have the right experience. Well, duh, I've worked in an office my whole life. I have applied to clean hotel/motel rooms, I have applied to be a dog walker, pet sitter, courier, the person who stands on the side of the road to count how many people are wearing their seatbelts. I have signed up with three or four temp agencies.
Pam J August 18, 2012 at 02:05 pm
Let me continue - I have applied for more than 30 jobs with Cobb County, several with the City of Marietta and the City of Smyrna, and one with the City of Powder Springs and two or three with Paulding County. My resume shows that I have worked in an office my whole life. Doing tax work. It is what it is. I have no retail or restaurant experience. In a good economy, I could probably get a job and they would train me, but right now there are so many people out of work that they can afford to be picky. And I know that Brian says that the Mexicans are not to blame for me not having a job. What I am saying is that if a lot of them get work permits, it will just be more competition for me. And there's already enough.

Pam,
If this can help call Roxanne 678-270-8548 she is manager with Diversified Cleaning Systems, they do janitorial work, they locate you close to where u live, for women they do all the Kohl's department stores and Targets, for men they do all the Home Depots, I got my electrician job through Craigslist.org, and I run my own electrical company when things are slow, Register will all employment sites with job alerts, simply hired, careerbuilders, snag a job.com. Administration jobs.com, but word of advice most temp professional services are looking for "Pink Elephants" meaning someone with 10-25 years in all areas of office work, as in the legal field I am studying, I learned that from my school's career service department advisor whom was a recruiter for 25 years, also go ever Tuesday between 8-11am to Atlanta Workforce and register they are near Turner Field and hire or have company representative do interviews and hire on spot, also GA DOL, Dekalb Workforce and register and for job alerts
Charles Schwable August 18, 2012 at 05:13 pm
Pam,
Have you ever thought of looking for job outside of Cobb? Also if u have trouble paying for your bills start contacting 211 United Way or churches, get on Food Stamps, search job fairs even veteran job fairs, I get them all the time, also contact Goodwill career services they get job leads and job fairs info.
Pam J August 18, 2012 at 05:22 pm
Charles, I have looked outside of Cobb County. I don't really have any more bills (except for car insurance) since my house was foreclosed on and I have defaulted on all of my credit cards. I do owe the IRS $4,000+, but they have put me in an "unable to pay" status for the time being. Otherwise I wouldn't need car insurance because they were going to take my car. I tried to get food stamps, but I was turned down, first when I lived with my brother and they thought that two unemployment checks would cover everything, and second, living with my mother, who they believe has enough coming in to cover everything. I've gone to two job fairs, stood outside for four hours and never got to talk to anybody. I've tried Goodwill, but I am apparently the wrong race. I've tried getting a small business loan or grant to start my own business. Got turned down four times. Got any more ideas?
Pam J August 18, 2012 at 05:32 pm
Charles, I think I have contacted Diversified or some other company like that, but, there again, I have no cleaning experience. I get a ton of e-mails everyday from all of the job sites about jobs. I went through the Cobb Works organization to try to get more training, but they said I had enough experience. I check the DOL website several times a day. I am not kidding you, I have a million sites I check every single day, several times a day. I've gotten a ton of advice over the last 2-1/2 years, and so far, none of it has worked. I appreciate the info you gave me, but I've tried just about everything. And since I live with my mother, who sort of became "helpless" after my father died, I can't be gone ten hours a day. If I was still looking for the $23/hr job, I wouldn't be so concerned about the illegal immigrants, but I'm looking for the lesser-paying jobs, probably the same jobs they will be looking for. That's where my frustration comes in. But at least we've reached a point where you are giving me "sound" advice.
Charles Schwable August 18, 2012 at 05:53 pm
Pam,
just call Roxanne it is 6-8 hours a day, Cobb works doesn't work out like Atlanta's workforce, also try Trojan Labor on Atlanta Rd by Austell Rd, they contract with JVC in Kennesaw doing factory work tell them you want to fill out application for JVC
Charles Schwable August 18, 2012 at 05:54 pm

Native Americans....really...obfuscating the problem with the plight of Native Americans....good grief ...this is a complete wash. The Feds SHOULD enforce the laws already on the books.
I'm sick of "some" people claiming that G-d will judge us, yet is judging us Now. It is sure hypocrisy to judge a person because of where they grew up, where they live or their skin color. It is their attitude & belief system that can be judged, but not by YOU. I will no longer respond to Charles Schwable's posts, they are the most bigoted, most judgemental & (perhaps) the silliest of the ones posted. People are allowed...perhaps I should say, Citizens & Legal Residents are allowed, SELF-DETERMINATION under the Constitution. If the majority don't want MARTA or TSPLOST or whatever, it's their choice. There is always a benefit & a consequence to every decision to one makes in life. It doesn't make them bigoted, it's just makes them the majority.

The best, most qualified person will be hired......................... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... This should be nominated for the Joke of the Day on the South Cobb Patch....
Besides, Skin Color, School Attended, Family Affiliation, Friend Affiliation, Secret Group Affiliation, Nationality Affiliation & Affirmative Action Status......then the "most" qualified person will be hired. I almost choked I was laughing so hard when I read that one....... Thank you sooooo much for the Joke of the Day.

Dear Mr. Bailey,
I am sorry you feel that way, one day I sure you will change or see the light as most structured Cobb philosophy has brainwashed people as you have been. Cobb county has made their bed and just a matter of time before they will lie in it.
Dr J E Wright August 19, 2012 at 03:57 am
Same could be said for anywhere in the world. I hope the HIspanics wake up and realize they are being used and see through the smoke screens the left is trying to create.
Dr J E Wright August 19, 2012 at 04:05 am
Careful Charles S., you are in jeopardy of projecting and revealing what you truly are. Adults discuss issues, adolescents try to get attention.
Charles Schwable August 19, 2012 at 05:15 am
Dear Dr. Wright,
I am not concerned with what people think and very much a adult I am probable more of a adult than you are.

Compassion, let's just talk about that...Compassion for my fellow man. I have it, I've always treated people the way I want to be treated up to the point they decide that they are better than me, then I treat them exactly the way they treat me. About Immigrants, I have absolutely no problem with immigrants, in fact, I encourage it. Encourage as long as it is legal. What I don't like is Illegal Immigrants, yet I expect my government to act in a proper manner & treat the Illegals with compassion as well. Thus they should see to any immediate medical needs, give them food & water, afford them a place to sit, sleep & use sanitary facilities & transport them in a manner better than they had to transit here to the USA. That is certainly a great deal more compassionate than some people deserve. The problem with allowing everyone in without restriction, no one can stop the criminals, the insane, the terminally ill or those who spread infections & disease. Of course not one of these illegals ever committed a crime or had mental issues or became ill before they came across the border, did they ?
Charles Schwable August 19, 2012 at 08:12 am
Pam,
I would retry and claim homeliness, reapply for food stamps and tell them what they want to hear. You are homeless living in Cobb to be exact, as I had done previously and go to the churches for help, they act as Hoover uprights every Sunday, plead with them for help
Charles Schwable August 19, 2012 at 08:19 am
Mr Bailey,
forget all that legal and illegal rhetoric of immigration and move on, my biggest complaint is against Cobb is their long standing one race society and their uppity attitude toward Atlanta and the rest of US, I do agree with their stance not condoning Gay's from Olympic squabble years ago with IOC and AOG, I constant hear from my college about what I post against gay students and their rights and the US Constitution, so their is only one set of Rules, God's, forget the Georgia and US Constitution but focus on what God would want that is everybody's first and only priority

Pam J August 19, 2012 at 08:12 pm
Charles, I have been to Canada, Mexico and the British Virgin Islands. I was on vacation each time, so I really didn't have to deal with their laws that much. I entered each country legally, and was therefore welcomed. And I've lived in Cobb County my whole life. I like it here, problems and all. If I ever move, it will be to Florida. A nice little retirement community across the street from the beach.

I have encouraged residents that have teens to attend meeting because this help our teens get to jobs or social activities and not just hang out in the neighborhood.
