Help for Georgia's Unemployed

The Georgia Department of Labor this week will mail notices with instructions on how individuals can file for additional benefits.

Some long-term unemployed Georgia workers may be eligible for additional benefits.

The Georgia Department of Labor this week will mail notices with instructions on how individuals can file for Emergency Unemployment Compensation.

"Federal law mandates that a state in which EUC is provided must have a three-month seasonally adjusted unemployment average of 9.0 percent to qualify for the EUC Tier 4 program," the department said in a news release. "This program allows extended benefits for individuals who have exhausted first, second, and third tiers of EUC and have no potential eligibility for regular unemployment insurance benefits."

Georgia’s average jobless rate has risen from 8.9 percent in April and May to 9.2 percent for the period covering June, July and August.
