Day 2 of Qualifying in South Cobb Brings 4 More Candidates

More candidates qualify for South Cobb-area elections on day two of qualifying.

On Wednesday, nine candidates qualified for South Cobb area elections. Additionally, three county commission chairman hopefuls qualified on Wednesday for the seat currently held by Chairman Tim Lee: retired Marine Col. Mike Boyce– who is currently blogging on Patch, former Chairman Bill Byrne and retired business executive Larry Savage.

As for other countywide races, incumbents State Court Clerk Diane Webb, Probate Court Judge Kelli Wolk, Chief Magistrate Judge Frank Cox and Tax Commissioner Gail Downing, all Republicans, filed for reelection on Wednesday.

Republicans Vic Reynolds and Cindi Yeagar both qualified for retiring Pat Head's position as county district attorney.

Incumbent Judge Reuben Green and challenger Nathan Wade qualified for Cobb Superior Court judge. For the seat of retiring Judge Dorothy Robinson, Van Pearlberg and Greg Poole are now added to the ballot. Superior Court incumbents Judge Mary Staley, Judge Adele Grubbs, Judge Lark Ingram, Judge Tain Kell and Judge Steve Schuster also filed Wednesday.

5:30 p.m.

Melissa Pike, president of the Cobb County Democratic Party reported four new candidates in South Cobb races.

For Cobb District 4 Commissioner, Powder Springs residents Ruth Negron and Connie Taylor qualified Thursday.

Additionally, incumbent David Morgan and challenger Dr. Bobby Allen qualified Thursday for Cobb Board of Education's Post 3.

Current Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee also qualified on Thursday, according to Cobb Republican Party President Joe Dendy.

No new candidates qualified in state races for House Districts 38 and 39 or Senate Districts 33 and 38.
