Cobb, Austell to Unveil Updated Floodplain Maps

Two open houses will be available for Austell residents and one for Mableton and county residents to review revised floodplain information.

Cobb County will hold an open house this afternoon for residents who would like to view the revised flood maps for Austell, Powder Springs, Marietta, Smyrna and Kennesaw. The open house will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cobb Water System Training Lab, 662 South Cobb Drive in Marietta.

Representatives from local, state and federal government will provide the most current information about Cobb's flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations and floodplain mapping during the open house.

The county, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division and the Federal Management Agency, completed a partial revision to the Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Flood Insurance Study for the county and for the five cities listed above. The study consists of charts and a narrative report of local flooding to be used by permit officials for development in the floodplain areas.
