Austell Group Helping Register Latino Residents to Vote

Cobb Immigrant Alliance is partnering with GALEO to get Latino residents involved in the voting process.

The Austell-based Cobb Immigrant Alliance is partnering with the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials to help register more Latino voters for the upcoming presidential election.

GALEO has launched their ¡Órale 10! and Georgia Latino Vote 2012 campaign. The Georgia Latino Vote campaign was first launched in 2004 and is one of the largest, non-partisan Latino voter registration and voter mobilization campaign in the state.

The ¡Órale 10! initiative consists of three steps:

  • register 10 new eligible voters in their community,
  • give 10 hours of their time as a volunteer,
  • donate $10 to the campaign to help support the voter registration efforts. Everyone is invited to take the Pledge of 10 by visiting www.orale10.com.

According to a 2009 GALEO report, Latino participation rates in Georgia municipal elections outpaced the national Latino participation voter rates.

“The face and electorate of Cobb has changed dramatically since during the last ten years (now approx 45% non-white, with South Cobb being over 50% non-white) and becoming much more diverse and we look forward to using the vote to put into the various elected offices those who reflect and support this changing demographic,” wrote CIA founder and Austell resident Rich Pellegrino in an email.
