According to the most recent police report, on Aug. 18, Lamberton’s wife called the police to her home and informed the responding officer that her husband threw her things around a room. The officer stated in his report, “After interviewing all parties involved it was determined that Mr. and Mrs. Lamberton had a verbal argument and police presence was not needed.”

Police Chief Bob Starrett declined to discuss the reports or why police did not file charges.

Lamberton is running for the Ward 4 City Council seat, challenging incumbent Virginia Reagan.

“People do have arguments,” Lance Lamberton told South Cobb Patch, before encouraging Patch to speak directly to his wife.

Lamberton said he doesn’t think the incidents are relevant to his run for office.

In addition to the Aug. 18 incident, Cheryl Lamberton filed reports of domestic disputes with local police on two other occasions in December 2009:

  • On Dec. 22, 2009, an Austell police officer mediated a domestic dispute between the Lambertons after being dispatched to their home. The officer stated in his report that he “had them make arrangements to reconcile. There was no physical altercation.”
  • A third report shows that on Dec. 17, 2009, Mrs. Lamberton reported a domestic dispute to Austell Police because she wanted to document an incident that occurred the day before and another that occurred the week before. She also wanted an officer to speak with her husband at a later date.

According to this report, Cheryl Lamberton said she and her husband had been in an argument earlier and that he was intoxicated and angry about the television.

“She stated he grabbed the cable box and tried to pull it from the wall. She stated he then grabbed her shirt near her neck area and was yelling at her.”

A week before that, he “became upset with her and threw a GPS device in the floorboard while she was driving,” according to the incident report.

Cheryl Lamberton told Patch she had been physically and emotionally abused by her first husband.

“That’s (physical abuse) not something I’d put up with,” she said. “I just want to make sure that never escalates to that.”

Cheryl Lamberton said she has a “strong personality,” is a cancer survivor who left an abusive husband and raised two boys on her own while putting herself through college.

“I love my husband very much. I’d never want to divorce him,” she said. “In hindsight, I probably should have never called.”
