Woman Dies on Silver Comet Trail

A woman is dead after crashing her ATV on the Silver Comet Trail Friday night. Police believe alcohol was involved.

A woman is dead after she and a friend riding in an ATV crashed the motorized vehicle on the Silver Comet Trail shortly after midnight.

The woman, 52-year-old Elizabeth Z. Neesley of Austell, was ejected from her seat in the red ATV when it collided with a metal pole placed in the middle of the trail to prevent motor vehicles access on the trail. After the vehicle collided with the pole, it caught fire and burned, police said.

Randall P. Gianisiracusa, 52 of Austell, was the other occupant of the ATV. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, which occurred east of Floyd Road.

Gianisiracusa was treated at the scene and then released.

Cobb Police are investigating the crash and have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle when it crashed.

Officer Mike Bowman stated in a release, "Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash and charges may be pending upon completion of this investigation."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to conduct Cobb Police at (770) 499-3987.

"NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES ON THE SILVER COMET TRAIL." It is clearly posted.

I guess the pole lived up to it's reason for being there. Sadly, in this case, wisdom did not come with age. But I am sorry that someone died.
You are right Pam. "NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES" on the trail for the safety of all. Thank God a late night jogger was not on the trail. It is clearly posted. It was a joy ride that turned tragic.

This is terribly sad!!! We ALL make mistakes and bad choices and unfortunately for her this was the result. Please think about the family including her young son who will be affected by your comments!!
Well said Natalie. "No motorized vehicles." A lesson for us all: mistakes and bad choices bring unwelcomed results.

She was 52 years old. How old is her son? Regardless, you cannot sugarcoat what has happened. Bad choices all around. Not choices that deserve the horrible outcome this one did, but when you flirt with danger, be prepared for danger to win.

So sad that a joyride even though On an ATV caused a young mother to lose her life - not to mention drinking and driving on a very family friendly busy trail did not harm any one else -,prayers go out to the family or families involved :(

Thank you Natalie. She was a loving Mom, sister and friend to many of us and will sorely be missed.

Her son just turned 13 and was very close to her. You are right when u play with danger these things can happen but not a one of us has not at some point made a bad decision. I just want all to be considerate towards the family because regardless of her decisions and any warnings they overlooked she was somebodys mother, daughter, best friend etc and these people are suffering.

That is the same reason why most of America's poor are poor. They made bad decisions during their entire life.

We are not the ones who should pass judgement on this, unless of course you are without sin. I know this sudden loss is very hard on her family and friends, I pray for God to give them comfort through this difficult time. God bless you! Ms Bonita As for Bob Smith saying that poor people are poor because of bad decissions, hog wash! Rich people are rich because they lied, cheated, stole, dealt drugs, ripped people off, con artist. Some rich are having their HEAVEN here on earth because they won't get to walk on streets of GOLD!! Bet Bob thinks he's rich and nice looking! lol!

Gee Bonita, I know poor people who do those exact same things.

Why was the driver released at the scene? He committed vehicular homicide. If the attending officers smelled alcohol on him, he should have been tested and arrested.

I met Elizabeth two summers ago when our boys played on the same tennis team at Sweetwater. What a great lady- she was kind, generous, funny and she just had such a nice way about her. This truly is a very sad tragedy and I send my prayers out to her young son and to all her family.
