Teen Charged in Monday Homicide

Cobb Police continue to investigate the murder that occurred Monday night on Oakhill Circle.

A 17-year-old man has been charged in the Monday evening death of an Austell woman.

According to a release from Officer Mike Bowman of the Cobb County Police Department, authorities have arrested Khalil Kelly of Austell in connection with the shooting death of 47-year-old Deirdre Smith, also of Austell.

Officers were dispatched Monday night to a shots fired call in the area of Oakhill Circle. When they arrived, they found Smith’s body, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

The incident occurred about 8:37 p.m. 

Kelly as of Tuesday morning was being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond and charged with murder and aggravated assault—both felony charges.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating this case, and anyone with information that may assist investigators in this case is asked to call 770-499-3945.

Though unrelated to the Monday evening incident, Cobb Police continue to investigate another homicide in Austell—one that occurred Monday morning in the 300 building of the Riverside Apartment complex at 311 Twin Hill Road.
