The Smyrna Police Department is looking for eyewitnesses that can help investigators piece together what led up to an accident that sent four people, including a pregnant woman, to the hospital.

According to police spokesman Cpl. Ed Cason, a black 2012 Volkswagen Jetta van and a gray 1996 Dodge Ram van collided at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and King Springs Road at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday.

Cason said that two children, a man, and a pregnant woman who was the driver of the Jetta were all sent to area hospitals due to the crash. One of the children and the man has been released, but one child is still recovering from a lacerated liver at Children's At Scottish Rite Hospital.

The pregnant woman was reportedly in a coma and on a ventilator at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, but Cason was not sure whether or not it was medically induced. He did confirm that the woman needs to be stabilized before having surgery, but was not willing to release information on the condition of the unborn baby until further information was provided by doctors.

Smyrna police investigators are looking for anyone who may have seen the crash happen, as there is very little physical evidence at the scene.

"We don't have a whole lot as to how the accident happened," Cason said. "There were no skid marks or any information on who hit who or how the accident began."

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact the Smyrna Police Department at (770) 434-9481.
