Shooting Victim's Brother Speaks; Apartment Residents Give Take on Shooting

Following the shooting of an Austell man in the Austell apartment complex, Parkview Apartments, last week, residents of the complex are speaking out about the suspected shooter.

The brother of an Austell man who was fatally shot at an Austell apartment complex spoke out Sunday.

According to Cobb police investigators, 27-year-old Andre Oliver was shot on Tuesday evening in the Parkview Apartments parking lot by the Parkview Apartments security guard after they were involved in a physical altercation.

The security guard thought to be responsible for the shooting has not been identified and has not been charged.

"I didn't believe it at first," Raquan Oliver, Andre's 23-year-old brother, told South Cobb Patch on Sunday. "Hopefully, he'll (the security guard) get arrested. That's crazy (that) you can kill somebody and then go walk around the streets."

Several Parkview residents said the security guard often harassed them.

"He'd just harass people for nothing," Raquan Oliver said of the security guard. He said the guard once told him that he couldn't sit outside the apartment in his own car, for example.

Another man, who wished to remain unnamed, called the guard "trigger-happy."

But not all residents described the guard this way.

Laurina Sherman, a resident of the complex, said the guard was always professional and friendly. She never witnessed him brandishing a weapon, she said.

"People who don't follow laws don't like authority," Sherman said of the allegations that the guard was constantly antagonizing residents.

A 22-year-old resident of the complex, who wished to remain unnamed, had similar feelings about the guard.

"At the end of the day, he's just trying to enforce the rules. I wasn't there. I mean, he's not the type to vengeantly retaliate. I see him as just doing his job," the man said.

"If it was retailiation, it's wrong, but if it's a case of self-defense then he has to do what he has to do," the man said.

Why aren't they naming the security guard? Since I wasn't there, I can't judge, but I think it's kind of crazy that the security guard's name isn't out there.

Simple answer. Vigilante justice like we have been witness to in the Trayvon Martin case. Regardless of your feelings on that case when they put a bounty on that guys head they crossed a line.

What should be said isn't. The fact of the matter is the man acted in self defense! The fact that he wasn't charged says alot. These were problem people looking to do harm if not kill that guy but, the tables were turned. Why is it so hard for people to tell the truth & stop pushing blame. Hold yourself accountable for your own actions. I have watched this same man you guys want to bad mouth deal with so much recklessness for those very people with so much to say. It is very simple to follow the rules. None of this would have ever happened!!!

I agree Kenyatta. It was totally self-defense. The fight that they keep talking about wasn't just a fight. He was being jumped by several people and none of those same tenants that watched did anything to help. .They didn't like him because he didn't allow them to be thugs, drug dealers and menaces to society on his watch. He did his job. I feel sorry for the dude that got shot but you have to take responsibility for your actions. The shooter wasn't and isn't a vigilante, he was protecting his life. It's as simple as that.

How could anyone call this self-defense when the fight was clearly over... Mr.Kentay Green fired shots 5 mins after the altercation why because he lost the fight and felt as if he wanted revenge... He walked up to Mr.Oliver shot him directly in his chest then fired a second shit stricking Mr.Oliver near his side, Mr. Oliver then fell on the gound the guard walked around the car stood over Mr. OLIVER and fired a third shot hitting him in the stomach area then turned and started firing shots at the crowd striking the second victim it was kids out side and everything and ppl call this self defense....Wow
