Police Search for Missing 5-Year-Old Girl

The girl went missing during a gathering of family and friends at an Austell apartment complex.

Taniya Gilbert, 5, was found safely on Saturday at 7:25 a.m. sleeping soundly in a pickup truck by the truck's owner.

Cobb Police are seeking assistance from the public to find a 5-year-old girl who went missing around 11:30 p.m. from Whisperwood Apartments at 630 Whisper Wood Court in Austell.

Taniya Gilbert, 5, was last seen inside an apartment at a gathering of family and friends at Building A of the apartment complex, according to police.

At 1:40 a.m., someone called 911 to alert the police that Taniya was missing.

Personnel from various public safety departments have been searching for Taniya since the call was received.

Taniya is a 3-foot-tall African-American girl who weighs about 40 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair that was braided with multicolored beads. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, jeans and sandals.

Anyone with any information about this 5-year-old girl is asked to call 911.
