Man Pulled Over for Drunken Driving With Girl, 13, In Car

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 33-year-old man from Ortonville was pulled over Nov. 11 at 3 a.m. driving a car that was reported stolen near Pontiac Lake Road and M-59, White Lake Police officials said.

According to the report, while officers had the man pulled over they noticed a heavy smell of intoxicants. The man was given field sobriety tests and failed, the report states.

A preliminary breath test was given, and the man registered at .15 blood alcohol level. The legal limit is .08. The man was arrested at the scene, and had a 13-year-old girl in the car with him. She was returned to her home by police.

The man, Scott Hawkins, was arraigned Nov. 11 on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence with an occupant less than 16, a 1 year misdemeanor, and driving with a suspended license. His bond was set at $5,000 cash.

Lt. Don Nankervis said the department is working with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office to investigate how Hawkins got possession of the car that was reportedly stolen.

The incident remains under investigation.
