Mableton Woman Arrested After 2.5-Hour Standoff

A Mableton woman was arrested Wednesday morning after a standoff that lasted more than two hours.

A Mableton woman was arrested for aggravated assault at her home after a two-and-a-half hour standoff Wednesday morning.

The police received a 911 call shortly before 6 a.m. from Susan Rasmussen, 53, who hung up on authorities after reporting a domestic incident.

Smyrna Police arrived on the scene at 5184 Ivy Green Way in Mableton where they found the husband, Mark Rasmussen, 54, briefly being held inside by Mrs. Rasmussen, who remained inside the home armed with a pistol and baseball bat.

Mr. Rasmussen was quickly released according to police spokesman Michael Smith, and members of the Smyrna Emergency Services Unit (ESU), Special Operations Division, Criminal Division and department hostage negotiators were called to the scene to assist.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Mrs. Rasmussen was talked out of the residence unarmed and taken to nearby Emory Adventist Hospital for an evaluation. She was then taken to the Smyrna City Jail and changed with aggravated assault against her husband.

According to Smith, the Rasmussens were the only people in the house and none of the nearby homes were evacuated.
