Mableton Man Charged with Grandfather's Death

About 8:18 tonight, the 78-year-old Lilburn man was found dead inside his truck in Mableton.

A missing Lilburn man was found dead in Mableton tonight, and one of two people being held on a felony murder charge in connection with his death is his grandson.

Edward Smith, 78, had not been seen since Thursday, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department. He was reported missing on Sunday.

About 8:18 tonight, Smith was found dead inside his truck at 365 Kemolay Rd., Pierce said.

Though the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of Smith's death, Mableton residents Casey Collins and Sarah Cook each face a charge of felony murder.

Collins, 30, is Smith's grandson. Cook, 23, is Collins' girlfriend.

They are being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, Pierce said.
