Mableton Home Fire May Have Been Caused by Drugs

The Drug Enforcement Agency has reason to believe a Dec. 6 blaze on Oak Hills Drive was the result of drug making.

Authorities with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency is investigating whether a Dec. 6 fire in a home on Oak Hills Road in Mableton was caused by the manufacture of illegal drugs.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the first call about the fire came in at 5:11 p.m. and was quickly extinguished by firefighters. However, several trucks and personnel were kept at the site two hours after the fire was put out due to strong smells of chemicals and fears of an explosion.

Elements of the Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna Organized Crime Unit (MCS Unit) provided a strong presence in the area, and Sgt. Dana Pierce told the MDJ that units from every MCS jurisdiction responded to the scene.

Nicholas Samuel Lyle, a resident of the 500 block of Oak Hills Road in Mableton, was arrested by authorities later that evening at the house when he attempted to enter secured areas by walking over crime scene tape.

Lyle was charged with disorderly conduct for abusive words and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement and released Dec. 7 on a $2,500 bond.
