Authorities Use Craigslist to Arrest Wanted Austell Man

The suspect allegedly used the same site to lure a woman to Austell, where he robbed her gunpoint.

The 19-year-old Austell man who allegedly lured a woman here via Craigslist and robbed her at gunpoint has been arrested, Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren announced this afternoon.

And authorities used Craigslist to do it.

Members of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, the Marietta Cobb Smyrna Organized Crime Unit and the Cobb County Police Department earlier this month arranged to meet Iquane Shaquill Brown "under the guise of answering his Craigslist ad," Warren said in a statement.

According to a July 5 arrest warrant, Brown had a television that he wanted to sell.

"Upon Brown’s arrival," Warren said, "he was arrested. Brown was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest."

He also had a gun June 10 when a woman who responded to his Craigslist ad met him in the 5100 block of Jones Road in Austell. When the woman arrived at the location about 11:50 a.m., Brown allegedly pulled out a Ruger .44 caliber rifle, demanded the victim's money and stole her 1999 blue Ford Crown Victoria, according to the arrest warrant.

"Unfortunately, this type of crime is becoming more and more prevalent in our community," Warren said today. "If it is necessary to meet the party, arrange the meeting in well lit public places and do not go alone."

Brown is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond on one count each of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and hijacking of a motor vehicle.
