Atlanta Man Dies in Austell Forklift Accident

Police say there are no signs of foul play.

An Atlanta man died Thursday morning after he was involved in a forklift accident at Caraustar, his workplace in Austell.

Investigators said Calvin Carter, 40, of Atlanta was working on a forklift while it was elevated on jacks. At some point equipment fell off the forklift and Carter was pinned beneath it.

Austell police responded to the scene, but Cobb County police were also called to assist in the investigation. At this time Cobb police say foul play is not suspected.Β

Editor's Note: Scott Koenigs, Caraustar Vice President of Human Resources, informed Patch on Sept. 4 that the original Cobb Police public information release contained one incorrect piece of information. Calvin Carter was not an employee of Caurastar, but was performing a service call at the time of the accident, Koenigs stated in an email.
